We all know breast milk is best for babies, but for many different reasons it’s not always possible for all mums to breastfeed. SMA Comfort benefits from over 90 years of experience in advancing baby nutrition and is a nutritionally complete infant milk that is designed to be gentle on babies’ tummies. Many healthy babies can experience minor but common everyday feeding related problems, including wind, crying and colicky symptoms, spitting up and fussing. Some babies may be more comfortable with an easy to digest infant milk such as SMA Comfort.

Why SMA Comfort Infant Milk?

Easy to digest protein and fat

SMA Comfort Infant Milk contains partially hydrolysed 100% whey protein which has smaller protein particles making it easier for your baby to digest. Fat plays an important role in supplying energy for your growing baby. SMA Comfort Infant Milk contains our improved fat blend that has been shown to give babies softer stools.

Reduced lactose

Lactose is a type of sugar found in milk and dairy products. Lower levels of lactose may help to reduce the amount of wind babies produce.

Omega 3 & 6 LCPs (Long Chain Polyunsaturates)

LCPs are important components of cell membranes and play a key role in the development of the brain, eye, and nervous system. Although LCPs can be made in the body, infants have a high demand for these nutrients. SMA Comfort contains Omega 3 & 6 LCPs to ensure your baby isn't missing out on these important nutrients.

Preparing your baby’s feed - powders. Product details

Whilst SMA products are made under strict hygienic conditions, they are not sterile. Make sure you follow these instructions on preparation and storage, or you could make your baby ill.

Wash hands well. Sterilise all utensils according to manufacturers' instructions.  After 6 months, if you are using a beaker it is not necessary to sterilise equipment, though you should ensure everything is fully cleaned.

Boil kettle filled with fresh tap water. Allow boiled water to cool for no more than 30 minutes before measuring the required amount of water (see feeding guide on can) into the sterilised bottle or beaker, carefully - the water is hot. Do not use artificially softened water or repeatedly boiled water.

Using the scoop provided in the can, add the correct number of scoops of powder (see feeding guide on can), levelling off each scoop with either the handy built-in leveller in the can  (only available on some cans) or with the back of a clean dry knife. Replace plastic lid on can.

Place the sterilised teat and cap on the bottle or lid on the beaker and shake well. Cool bottle or beaker  under cold running water until lukewarm. Test temperature by shaking a few drops onto the inside of your wrist.

If advance preparation is necessary, consult your healthcare professional.

Breastfeeding is best for babies. Good maternal nutrition is important for the preparation and maintenance of breastfeeding. Introducing partial bottle-feeding may have a negative effect on breastfeeding and reversing a decision not to breastfeed is difficult. You should always seek the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor, public health nurse, dietitian or pharmacist on the need for and proper method of use of infant milks and on all matters of infant feeding. Social and financial implications should be considered when selecting a method of infant feeding. Infant milk should always be prepared and used as directed. Inappropriate foods or feeding methods, or improper use of infant formula, may present a health hazard.
